So... "big bEAU wolf"?

Official American Alsatian Club Australia. As the club's "BIG BEAU WOLF" slogan suggests, these animals are a far cry from their evil mythical, fable and fantastical descriptions. Contrary to belief, the breed is comprised of domestic German Shepherd, Malamute, Mastiff, Pyrenees, Anatolian Shepherd and Irish Wolfhound bloodlines - 'wolf' is not an element of the mix.

The image includes three generations of Alsatians. From left to right, Odessa (11), Prudence (2 1/2), Citara (7). One can already see the extent to which the breed has evolved over the last 10 years. Breeding to the AA Standard is a slow, steady process and achieving the look of the Dire Wolves is an even more difficult task.

Ultimately, this is what the Alsatian Clubs are breeding towards:

A breed that mirrors the extinct Dire Wolf in appearance, has eradicated expensive vet bills and genetic disorders, a higher level of intelligence and longer lifespan, a gentle and laid-back temperament, is suitable for families with young children and a companion for life.

When this goal is achieved it will literally change society.

As a new Australian club, we strive to honour the Creator of the American Alsatian program - Lois Schwartz. With over 45 years of experience on her side, we fully support Lois' movements to establish the world's first large companion dog breed.
